Meet our therapist
About our therapist…
Hi I’m Sophie and I’m a qualified Integrative Counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Choosing a counsellor and style of therapy can be overwhelming and often daunting. Whether you have explored counselling in the past or if it’s a new experience, it’s important to remember that every practitioner will have different ways of working. When choosing a therapist to start your mental health journey with, whether that’s with myself or elsewhere, go with the personality dynamic and choice that feels right for you!
As mentioned above, I’m an integrative therapist, which means I am qualified in different counselling approaches including;
Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt.
My theoretical therapeutic style, is grounded in the Psychodynamic philosophy, where I believe our past plays a role in shaping aspects of our current lives. Through open and at times, guided discussion, I help clients make connections with their current outlook of the world and ways of interpreting situations & interacting with others; to historic experiences, where applicable, that influence their current behaviours, thoughts and beliefs. If client’s are experiencing behaviours that are negatively impacting their lives, I will interweave CBT interventions, where appropriate, if the client is willing and wanting to adapt their thought processing & emotional responses, that leads to these behaviours.
Most importantly, I aim for the client to feel seen and heard, in a safe, calm, non-judgemental space; to explore their thoughts and feelings. Whether life feels overwhelming, you feel lost, going through a difficult time or seek to understand yourself better - you don’t have to navigate those feelings alone.
My counselling service is inviting and inclusive, welcoming anyone seeking someone to talk to! I truly believe that everyone can benefit from not being alone, with thoughts and feelings that feel heavy. Sometimes all the reason you need, to access counselling, is for an unbiased ear to listen, to problems that feel big or small. Secure in the knowledge that support is discrete & confidential.
I feel very passionately that mental health is just as important as physical health and accessing support, is just a natural way to invest in your overall health & quality of life.
If you are considering taking the step, to invest in you and make your mental health a priority; complete our enquiry form, to discuss starting your journey.

FAQs
-
Anyone is welcome to access support, work on themselves or seek to understand their self on a deeper level. Sometimes speaking confidentially to someone who is not a friend or family member, can help quiet the noise inside your mind and help you to gain more clarity for your life, wants and needs.
-
I offer open-ended therapy, which means there is no time-frame limitations on the course length of therapy. Sessions usually occur once weekly or fortnightly, but can be accessed sporadically, if that suits the clients lifestyle. People may access therapy for weeks, months or longer.
-
Counselling is a talking therapy, where we sit and discuss, whatever topics the client wishes to talk about. The duration of each session is 50 minutes.
Everyone’s therapy journey is unique to them, sometimes there may be interventions/tasks to complete, if they would be beneficial to the client’s goals.
